हिन्दी अनुवाद- यह कहानी एक वीर सिपाही अब्दुल हमीद की है। वह भारतीय सेना में कंपनी क्वार्टर मास्टर हवलदार था। वह बहुत बहादुर सिपाही था। वह 1965 की भारत और पाकिस्तान की लड़ाई में लड़ा था।
अब्दुल हमीद उत्तर प्रदेश के गाज़ीपुर जिले के धामूपुर गाँव में 1 जुलाई, 1933 को एक मुस्लिम परिवार में सकीना बेगम और मोहम्मद उस्मान के घर में पैदा हुआ।

वह 10 सितम्बर 1965 की एक भोर थी, जब भारत पाकिस्तान से लड़ रहा था। पैटोन टैक्स की पाकिस्तानी फौजी टुकड़ी भारत के खेमकरन सेक्टर की भीखीविंड-अमृतसर सड़क पर आगे बढ़ रही थी। वह एक चीमा नाम के गाँव पहुँच चुकी थी। यह गाँव भारत-पाक सीमा पर था। इस सेक्टर में 6 सितम्बर से लड़ाई चल रही थी। यहाँ हवलदार अब्दुल हमीद और 4 ग्रेनेडियर्स कम्पनी का एक और सिपाही पाकिस्तानी सेना का सामना करने के लिए प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे। वीर अब्दुल एक जीप में बैठा था। उसके पास एक विशेष बन्दूक थी। पाकिस्तानी सेना के पैटोन टैंक उससे ज्यादा दूरी पर नहीं थे। वह चाहता तो अपनी बंदूकों से टैंकों पर हमला कर सकता था। वह एक अच्छा निशानेबाज़ था परन्तु वह अपने निशाने व्यर्थ नहीं करना चाहता था। वह अपने हर निशाने से पाकिस्तानी टैंकों पर हमला करना चाहता था। पाकिस्तानी टैंक बहुत शक्तिशाली और खतरनाक थे। वे और पास आ रहे थे। वे लगातार आग उगल रहे थे। बहादुर अब्दुल हमीद आगे बढ़ा। उसने एक पाकिस्तानी टैंक देखा। उसने अपनी बंदूक घुमाई और एक गोली चलाई। टैंक में आग लग गई और वह ध्वस्त हो गया। अब्दुल हमीद की कम्पनी के सभी सैनिक बहुत खुश थे।

हिन्दी अनुवाद- अचानक उसने एक और टैंक देखा। उसने एक और गोली चलाई और वह भी आग से ध्वस्त हो गया। चार और टैंक देखे गए। पाकिस्तानी अब्दुल हमीद की कम्पनी पर आक्रमण करना और उसे मारना चाहते थे। वह उनका सबसे बड़ा दुश्मन था। उन्होंने अपने टैंकों की बंदूकें उसकी तरफ घुमा दीं। उनके गोली चलाने से पहले, अब्दुल हमीद ने तीसरे टैंक पर भी गोली चला दी। और उस टैंक ने भी आग पकड़ ली। आग की लपटें ऊपर आसमान तक ऊँची उठ रही थीं। परन्तु दुश्मन के एक बारूद के गोले ने उसकी जीप पर प्रहार किया। वह बहादुर वीर गिर पड़ा। वह बुरी तरह घायल हुआ फिर भी उसने हिम्मत नहीं हारी। उसने अपने सैनिकों को आदेश दिया, “आगे बढ़ो और लड़ो।” उन्होंने उसके आदेश का पालन किया और बहादुरी से लड़े।
दुश्मन के कुछ और टैंक ध्वस्त किए गए। पाकिस्तानी सैनिक डर गए और भाग खड़े हुए। भारतीय सेना का यह बहादुर सैनिक अपने देश के लिए मरा। मृत्यु के पश्चात् उसे परमवीर चक्र से पुरस्कृत किया गया। वह इस देश के लोगों के द्वारा हमेशा सम्मानित किया जाएगा और भारत के पाकिस्तान के विरूद्ध 1965 की लड़ाई के सबसे बहादुर वीर के नाम से याद किया जाएगा। उसके नाम पर उसके गाँव का नाम ‘हमीद धाम’ रखा गया है।
