हिन्दी अनुवाद- ग्रीष्म ऋतु में मुझे प्रातः जागना अच्छा लगता है। जब वृक्ष पर पक्षी चहकते हैं। कहीं दूर से किसी शिकारी के अपनी तुरही बजाने की आवाज़ सुनाई देती है। और स्काईलार्क पक्षी मेरे साथ गाता है। यह समय इन साथियों के सुंदर साथ से भरपूर होता है। परन्तु ग्रीष्म की सुबह स्कूल जाना सारी खुशियों को दूर कर देता है। स्कूल में एक निर्दयी कठोर, थका हुआ अध्यापक बच्चों को पढ़ाता है और उन पर नज़र रखता है। छोटे-छोटे बच्चे आहें भरते हुए, निराशा में अपना दिन व्यतीत करते हैं।

जो पक्षी गाने और स्वतंत्रता के लिए जन्म लेता है, वह पिंजरे में बंद होकर नहीं गा सकता है। उसी प्रकारे सहमा हुआ बच्चा खुश नहीं हो सकता। पिंजरे का पक्षी अपने नाजुक पंख निराशा में गिरा देता है और उड़ना छोड़ देता है। उसी तरह स्कूल जाने वाला बच्चा भी खुश रहना भूल जाता है। आनन्द का युवा झरना उसके अंदर खो जाता है।
हे माता-पिता बच्चे नाजुक पौधों की तरह हैं। यदि दिन निकलते ही उनकी कलियाँ तोड़ दी जाएँ और फूल हवा में उड़ा दिए जाएँ, तो निस्संदेह इसका अर्थ होता कि खिलने के समय ही पौधे को उसकी सारी खुशियों से वंचित कर दिया गया। ठीक उसी प्रकार बच्चे भी खुल के नहीं जी पाते जब उन्हें निराशा और चिंता सताती है।
